Historical Notes:
Chemise dress
This gown is inspired by Jean Baptiste Isabey's Miniature of Young Woman painted in the 1790s (source unknown).

This dress features a slightly elevated waistline and full gathered skirt. It was traditionally white or pastel in color; however evening gowns of this style have also been documented in rich jewel tones.

This style of gown originated in France and was inspired by the dress of the pastoral countryside. It quickly spread throughout Europe and America and was prominent from the 1780s to early 1800s.
In England, it was worn over a small pad attached at the back of the corset.
